Severn Trent provides water and wastewater services in England and Wales.
The 1989 “customer discount” cut the price of shares
Severn Trent’s 1989 flotation shares cost 240p, payable in three instalments. Eligible customers who chose the discount could save 10p per share on the second payment by holding continuously until 28 June 1990, and another 10p on the final payment by holding until 27 June 1991. The total discount was capped at £300.
Customers could instead choose bonus shares for retaining their holding until 31 December 1992. These rewards changed the cost or size of the investment; neither reduced a water bill.
Shareview’s benefits are account tools
The company lists benefits of using Shareview Portfolio, including checking holdings, changing personal details, voting and viewing dividend documents. Those are ways to manage shares, not discounts on water or other consumer services.
If you have been told otherwise
If someone tells you a Severn Trent holding cuts your water bill, ask the company for the terms in writing.
