Storage, packing and contents protection

What shareholders get 10% off 1 share or more

Big Yellow rents storage space under the Big Yellow and Armadillo names. Its customers include people moving home or renovating, and businesses storing stock.

What you get

Shareholders get 10% off self storage, packing materials and Enhanced Liability Service, which protects stored goods.

Armadillo stores and flexi-offices

Big Yellow’s discount FAQ includes Armadillo stores and flexi-office rental. The storage discount applies to each four-week period paid.

Can you combine it with the opening offer?

Big Yellow’s own pages disagree. Its shareholder centre and discount FAQ say the 10% is additional to the 50% opening offer on self storage. Its consumer terms say the shareholder discount cannot be used with other offers. None explains whether the 10% would come off the full price or the reduced price. Before you agree a price, ask the store to show which discounts apply and how they are calculated in your quote.

What it takes

You need at least one Big Yellow Group PLC ordinary share. Ownership date: You must hold the shares when you claim.

Your proof must show the same name as the storage customer, and the storage account must be paid up. Big Yellow employees cannot use the offer.

Before buyingA perk is a minor benefit of owning a share, not a reason to buy one. Share prices fall as well as rise, and dealing costs, spreads and tax can exceed a perk’s value. Read about the risks.

Holding through a broker

Shares held in your own name or through a nominee qualify.

Big Yellow accepts evidence from brokers and investment platforms. Check that your provider can supply a document showing your name and holding.

ISA holdings: Eligible.

Big Yellow Group does not say whether SIPP holdings qualify.

How to claim

Big Yellow accepts a share certificate, a recent broker or platform statement or valuation (including ISA and nominee accounts), or other written or electronic confirmation from your provider. Provider documents must show your name and Big Yellow Group PLC holding. Evidence should be dated within the previous three months.

  1. 1. Prepare your proofHave your certificate or provider document ready. You can show a statement or valuation on your phone. You may hide balances, other investments, account numbers and anything else unnecessary to show your name and holding.
  2. 2. Ask for the discount in storeShow your proof at a Big Yellow or Armadillo store. Ask staff to apply the shareholder discount and confirm the discounts in your quote. Big Yellow may reasonably ask for further evidence.

Company story

From Richmond to Armadillo

Big Yellow opened its first store in Richmond in May 1999. Its Fulham flagship followed in 2008: 139,000 square feet, including wine storage.

Armadillo joined the business in stages. Big Yellow signed a contract to manage ten Armadillo stores in 2009, bought the business with Australian investors in 2014 and acquired the remaining interest in 2021.
