One-share shareholder benefits: what one share can qualify for

One share can meet the entry requirement for some consumer benefits. It cannot guarantee that your broker, address, account or booking qualifies. A registered share, a share in a broker’s pooled account and a bond are different holdings.

Each example’s issuer terms either state a one-share minimum or admit all shareholders without a higher threshold. An unknown minimum does not qualify. These examples cover the companies on this site, rather than every offer worldwide.

UK examples

Bloomsbury Publishing: 35% off RRP

Shareholders get 35% off the recommended retail price of Bloomsbury print books.

The form does not ask for an ownership document. Your investor code or nominee details are optional.

Chapel Down: 25% off

One share meets the Silver holding threshold. Its voucher gives 25% off. Use it once a year, online while logged into your shareholder account or at the winery shop. The code arrives in your welcome or annual update email.

Email a contract note, share certificate or statement showing your name, how many shares you hold and your broker or nominee’s name. At the winery shop, staff look you up by full name, email address, postcode and shareholder number. You may be asked for ID showing your name.

Mitchells & Butlers: 20% off total bill

Shareholders receive 12 vouchers a year. Each gives 20% off the total bill at managed Mitchells & Butlers pubs and restaurants when every guest orders a main meal.

M&B sends registered holders a booklet with its annual mailing. Nominee holders should ask their nominee for it first. If the nominee will not apply, M&B needs proof of the holding before it sends a booklet directly. The FAQ does not say which documents count.

Be on the Equiniti register, or your nominee’s, by 20 November each year. This is the issuer’s recommendation, not the formal record date.

The record date moves each year with the annual report, usually falling in late November or early December.

Global examples

Accor: ALL Gold status

Qualifying shareholders receive Gold status in ALL, Accor’s hotel loyalty programme, until 31 December of the year after joining the Shareholders Club.

After that, keeping Gold takes 30 hotel nights or 7,000 Status points a year. Holding the shares does not renew it. If you have been a club member before, you must wait five years for another free Gold grant.

Gold includes room upgrades and early check-in or late checkout when available, plus welcome drinks and extra Reward points on eligible stays. Club members can also book the hotel tours Accor announces.

Accor ordinary shares qualify.

You must join the Shareholders Club and have an email address.

Holley: Go Fast sticker pack

Holley offers a Go Fast sticker pack to shareholders with at least one HLLY share. Its investor FAQ also mentions special discounts and in-person experiences at Holley events, but gives no discount amounts or event details.

LVMH’s free Shareholders Club lets you book winery and workshop visits, buy selected wines and spirits, take discounted media subscriptions and order priority-access Fondation Louis Vuitton tickets. Membership lasts two years while you remain a shareholder.

Paris-listed LVMH shares qualify.

You must be an individual shareholder and join the club. French and overseas residents can apply.

Provide a bank or broker securities statement from the past three months showing your LVMH holding.

Wine orders need a separate Moët Hennessy account and are for adults’ personal use. Delivery is to metropolitan France only. Media offers include Les Échos, Investir, Le Parisien and Connaissance des Arts.

What one share does and does not buy

“One share” describes a holding requirement. The benefit may still require club membership, a purchase, a visit or an ownership document. A discount still leaves a bill to pay.

Compare the delivered price or the trip you already intend to take. A small benefit can be outweighed by dealing fees, custody charges, currency movements and a fall in the share price. Read the investment risks.

Why other familiar names may be missing

An ordinary annual meeting invitation alone is not a consumer perk. A charitable donation helps its recipient, rather than giving the shareholder a consumer reward. Neither belongs in this list. A substantive discount, gift or special visit can qualify when the issuer’s terms establish it.

Dividend-funded shopping offers use your own dividend money and have a separate index. Former benefits belong in Historic. An old one-share list can mix all of these with current discounts, so its length says little about what you can claim today.

Check these limits before relying on a benefit

  1. Security and instrument. Check the issuer and share class. A depositary receipt may have different rules. A minimum bond investment is not a one-share threshold.
  2. Registration and custody. Ask whether your own name must appear on the issuer’s register. A broker’s nominee account can hide your identity from the issuer.
  3. Account and proof. An issuer’s proof route does not establish that every broker, ISA or SIPP supplies acceptable evidence. No first-hand claim through your account is implied here.
  4. Location and delivery. Check where the product ships, what postage costs and whether visits or purchases take place in another country. Club access does not remove local limits.
  5. Timing and use. Read the record date, renewal rules and voucher expiry on the company page. Buying one share after a qualifying date does not recover the missed entitlement.

Open the company’s full terms, confirm your own holding route and check the offer before planning a purchase or visit.
